In a time of already tightened belts, its easy to see why some farmers are taking their lands out of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The CRP is a program under the Farm Bill that pays farmers for not farming on highly erodible land.

At the same time, in the same place, there is a “very active sign-up period” for the same program, according to Shanda Laflin, head of the Johnson County Farm Service Agency office in Tecumseh.
