how will you #enjoytheMississippi?

Enjoy The Mississippi River Week June 10-20th, 2021

There is no one right way to enjoy the Mississippi.

Our nation’s most iconic waterway overflows with beauty, story, and ways to enjoy it. From the headwaters in Minnesota downstream to Louisiana and into the Gulf of Mexico, our river is strikingly unique at every twist and turn. So of course, how you enjoy the Mississippi can be different based on where you are located, who you are, and what you like.

1 Mississippi has launched a yearlong campaign – Enjoy The Mississippi – to spotlight the diverse ways people enjoy the Mississippi River. Additionally, the campaign includes an epic week in June 2021 dedicated to uplifting the people, land, water, and wildlife of the River – more info soon!

Here are the first steps in getting involved:

Are there any new ways you will Enjoy The Mississippi in 2021? How do you traditionally enjoy the River? Add your responses and stories to the campaign collection by emailing Michael your reply at info@1mississippi.org. We (and your neighbors) want to hear from you!

Also, be sure to share on social media – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter – how you will enjoy the Mississippi and include the hashtag #EnjoyTheMississippi and tag @1Mississippi so we can gather the stories and help share!

“I’m excited to #EnjoyTheMississippi and all of the amazing birds that count on the River as their flyway. Last winter, I saw numerous bald eagles during the winter and in the spring a pair of Mississippi Kites took up residence in my neighborhood. I know that their presence is made possible by our mighty River.”

“I will be enjoying the Mississippi near Cohasset, Minnesota fishing with friends near where I grew up. I will be watching for Bald Eagles, Kingfishers and waterbugs.”

      Step 1

      Become a River Citizen

Yes! The River can count on me!

I am committed to protecting the Mississippi River and will take at least three actions to care for this valuable resource. Please keep me informed about actions I can take to protect the Mississippi River as a River Citizen:

      Step 2

      Educate Yourself

The 1 Mississippi program is implemented by the Mississippi River Network and is the nation’s only grassroots outreach effort focused on the entire Mississippi River with the goal to educate the public on the urgent issues facing the River.  The Mississippi River Network is a coalition of over 55 organizations working toward a healthy and resilient River for the land, water, wildlife, and people.

      Nutrient pollution

      Importance of floodplains and wetlands

      Farm bill conservation programs
