Iowa Safe Drinking Water Act Petition to EPA – Presentation & Listening Session: Dubuque
Register here: https://iaenvironment.salsalabs.org/presentation_2024petition/index.html
Over the past three years, the Iowa Environmental Council (IEC) has filed petitions and comments to improve rules regulating concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in Iowa, with specific attention to the vulnerable karst landscape in the Northeast Iowa Driftless region. In April, after Iowa leaders again failed to take action to protect drinking water sources, IEC filed a petition to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), asking the agency to use its emergency powers under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to intervene and protect drinking water for Iowans.
Join us for a presentation and discussion about drinking water quality in the Driftless, industrial livestock pollution, and IEC’s petition to EPA. IEC will present recent analysis of drinking water threats in Iowa’s karst region, provide information on the petition, and then open the session up for discussion and feedback from attendees.
The session will be held on June 13th at noon in the Journey Theater at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque, Iowa.
