On July 7, residents from the Dubuque, IA, area took action to clean up the Mississippi River. Thirty-one volunteers retrieved 3280 pounds of trash from the banks of the Mississippi River. Along with 76 bags of trash collected, 20 tires, a bicycle and a broken television were retrieved. This event was part of Living Lands and Waters’ “Great Mississippi River Clean-Up” and hosted by the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA). After a morning of hard work volunteers enjoyed each other’s company over sack lunches provided by a local Hy-vee grocery store. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the clean-up a success! Thank you also to Living Lands and Waters and DMASWA for hosting this event.
