Listen carefully. What is that sound? That dripping that keeps you awake at night is more than just shoddy plumbing – that’s the sound of your money–and our children’s future—going down the drain.

According to a statement recently put out by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average American household wastes 10,000 gallons of freshwater each year. When you consider how many homes waste that much water across the entire country, you have enough to provide water to Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles combined!
“When households have a leak, it’s not just a waste of water, it’s a waste of money,” EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said. “But by fixing leaky pipes, buying WaterSense products and taking other simple steps, families can save on their water bills and conserve clean water for future generations to enjoy.”

Homeowners could see up to a 12 percent savings in water costs if simple fixes are put in place.

You can help protect the Mississippi River from the comfort of your own bathroom. Simply fix leaky faucets, or even tighten fixtures that seem just fine, and you could save gallons of freshwater and your pocketbook at the same time!
