How are you holding up today? This is a scary and hard time right now, and things are not business as usual. There are any number of factors affecting us individually, as this pandemic sweeps across the globe. Yet, we are also all united in being impacted by this at once, and we are all united in being called to help. I can’t help but think of a river analogy here, the lessons our mighty Mississippi shows us daily; that we are all part of a system, that everybody lives downstream…

It’s time to reflect on 2019 – 1 Mississippi River Citizen highlights!

It’s safe to say, 2019 was a year of overflow on the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Record-breaking flooding in 2019 across the watershed leaves no doubt that the River must be respected. This past year was also another reminder that we are in a time of change. Our choices and actions today will have rippling impacts on the generations to come.

As Fall settles on the Mississippi River, we extend our gratitude to all who participated in last months’ River Citizens Challenge and to those who have shown up for the River this summer! From growing the community by spreading the word about 1 Mississippi (the only national public program dedicated to protecting and restoring the Mississippi River from headwaters to gulf) to taking advocacy action and attending local River-focused events.

We protect what we know and love. As a River Citizen, you’ll receive our email newsletter and updates, which offer countless ways to engage with and learn more about the River. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter) , and YouTube, where we share about urgent issues facing the River, such as nutrient pollution, the importance of floodplains and wetlands, and bedrock legislation such as Farm Bill Conservation Programs.
