In dozens of communities along the Mississippi River from  St. Paul, MN to New Orleans, LA Living Lands & Waters (LL&W) is coordinating the Great Mississippi River Cleanup (GMRC).

The first Great Mississippi River Cleanup was held on one-day in 2010.  Since then, LL&W has broken the cleanup up into several different dates throughout the region in order to meet the needs of hosting communities. Communities and local site coordinators now choose the date that works best for their town. We are looking for local site coordinators in communities along the river  willing to take the lead and organize a cleanup in their town. If interested, please contact nora@livinglandsandwaters.org or at 309.236.0728.

Are you ready to take the lead and organize a clean up in your community? Here are the main roles for each Site Coordinator.

  • Recruit volunteers from community to participate in cleanup
  • Scout out area needed for cleanup
  • Help find a launching/meeting site
  • Fundraising
  • Identify disposal facilities
  • Recruit boat owners to volunteer time and use of boat
  • Help attain and organize supplies for event
