Did you know a myriagon is a polygon with 10,000 sides? Or that each person has an average of 10,000 taste buds? Or that there are nearly 10,000 different species of birds on the planet right now? These birds come in all shapes and sizes, some fly, some don’t. Every year 60% of all North American birds (326 species) use the Mississippi River as their migratory flyway. These are birds of a feather, just like us River Citizens.

And now there 10,000 of us, 10,000 River Citizens, all unique individuals, all connected by this Big Magnificent Muddy River. We are bird-watchers and boat-owners. We are canoeing enthusiasts, river rats and city slickers. There are people who appreciate wildlife, and others who may not give a hoot about birds (pun intended), but simply don’t want their homes left more vulnerable to seasonable flooding.

To celebrate the completion of phase one – building the base of River Citizens, we have created an original “POP” – or Power Of the People – video.

Thank you all for being one of the
Founding Fathers
of the 1 Mississippi movement,
it would not exist without you.

We need people like you who will get their hands dirty participating in clean up and restoration projects. We need people who speak up for the little guy against powerful interest groups at local town meetings and public hearings to hold businesses and government accountable for the promises they have made. We need to recognize our actions affect people who live downstream from us, that we are inescapably connected and, most of all, we are all an essential part of the solution.
